I see your salary before benefits is $44,439. I'm not sure if you have a Phd, but that puts you just about in line with the national median income. Most people, if fortunate enough to have a pension and health care benefits, contribute quite a bit more than 6% to cover healthcare costs, and usually pay half their pension.
